Younger woman with brown hair covering her smile, austin tx

A young woman, we'll call her Julie, took excellent care of her teeth but always hated her smile. She had a few worn teeth, a gummy smile, and inconsistent spacing. Eventually, tired of covering her mouth when she laughed, Julie investigated cosmetic dentistry options to see what she could do to change her smile’s appearance.

After much consideration, Julie chose dental veneers in Austin, TX. She appreciated that a single cosmetic treatment could address all her aesthetic concerns.

After getting her veneers, Julie wanted information about longevity and how to keep her veneers looking beautiful, which I cover in this blog!

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain cemented to the front sides of teeth. To secure them, I remove a bit of enamel for a flush and natural-looking finish. Enamel removal means you must consider your veneers permanent. If one is lost or damaged, I must replace it to protect the treated tooth beneath.

Veneers are a popular option because they hide so many smile flaws, including:

  • Gummy smiles
  • Short or worn teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Slightly crooked teeth

How to Care for Veneered Teeth: Keeping Your Smile Beautiful

Julie learned that veneer care was simple but necessary. Of course, dental veneers can’t decay, but failing to care for your teeth and gums can lead to veneer failure and tooth loss.

Be sure to visit my dental office every six months for dental checkups and professional teeth cleanings.

Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss at least once to keep your gums healthy. You should also brush your veneers, treating them like natural teeth.

Also, please let me know if you experience oral health changes or have any concerns about your dental veneers.
