How should I clean and care for my dentures?

When you replace your missing teeth with dentures, you can smile confidently, eat your favorite foods, and speak properly. Today’s dentures are comfortable and natural-looking, but they require cleaning and care to keep them looking and feeling their best.

Cleaning Your Dentures

Unless you have implant-supported dentures or a fixed partial denture that can’t be removed, you must remove your dentures to clean them. Follow these tips to keep them clean and fresh:

  1. Using a denture cleanser or mild dishwashing liquid and a soft-bristled brush, gently scrub your dentures daily and rinse them when you’re finished.
  2. Store your dentures in a container of cool water or denture solution until you wear them again. This will keep them from drying out.
  3. Rinse your dentures with cool water before placing them back in your mouth.

Caring for Your Dentures

In addition to daily cleaning, your dentures will last longer if you follow these tips:

  • Rinse your dentures after you eat.
  • Remove your dentures when you’re sleeping.
  • Contact your dentist if you break your dentures or if they irritate your mouth.
  • Avoid products with bleaching agents or abrasive ingredients, as they can damage your dentures.
  • Visit your Austin dentist for regular dental checkups.
